Greater Austin YMCA - FOR ALL: Outdoor Yoga with Scott!

Step into the embrace of Mother Nature and experience the magic of community healing at our Greater Austin YMCA's event! Join us for a soul-nourishing day amidst the serene beauty of the great outdoors, as we unite to honor the profound connection between humanity and the natural world:

Yoga Under the Trees: Find your inner tranquility as we gather under the canopy of gentle trees for a peaceful yoga session. Our experienced yoga instructor will lead you through calming poses and mindful breath, allowing you to fully embrace the serenity of the natural surroundings.

Night Gardens and Nectar Collectors with the City of Austin Park Rangers

Daytime turns into night at the Caretaker’s Cottage while we explore the wide world of pollinators beyond butterflies and bees! Learn how bats, beetles, and more help make Austin the beautiful green city that it is, using a tactile matching game created by Park Rangers.

Give yourself “monarch vision" by using UV flashlights. Finally, leave the event with seed packets of night-blooming plants, and give those amazing nocturnal pollinators an excuse to visit your backyard or community garden.

Tree Walk and Seedball Craft with the City of Austin Park Rangers

Join the City of Austin Park Rangers on a tour of the historic Caretaker's Cottage in Zilker Park! At the top of every hour, Rangers will be leading a tree walk through the Cottage grounds, teaching participants to identify, care for, and meaningfully connect with our arboreal friends. The event will finish with a seedball making activity, and participants will go home with a pollinator-friendly resource they can easily add to their own yards or community gardens.

NLID Fall Fest & Tree Adoption

Enjoy the beauty of fall in central Texas by joining the North Lamar International District Merchant Association for free family fun! Help us celebrate Arbor Day by adopting your very own, free, native tree from our partner organization, TreeFolks, and get your tree related questions answered by an expert certified arborist. We will also be celebrating Monarch Appreciation Day by learning all about butterflies and our other invaluable pollinator friends. Activities include seed ball making, a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, story time, balloon artist, pumpkin patch, free snacks, and more!

Park Party at the Pleasant Hill Branch Library

Join us at Pleasant Hill for a special Roots & Wings-themed Park Party and celebration of the natural world in our library's beautiful green space. Learn about the plants in our park and enjoy a nature-themed story walk around the grounds. Youth Librarian Jace will host an outdoor storytime for all ages, followed by butterfly- and plant-themed crafts, activities, a chalk mural, and games. Free refreshments will be provided along with a seed ball creation station.

Author Read Aloud with Collin Pine + Backyard Pollinator Garden Workshop

Event update: Please note that Zilker Botanical Garden will be charging regular admission. Conservancy members and Museums for All participants are free. Learn more here.

This is a hybrid event. To attend virtually, you must pre-register. Join us in celebrating the Roots & Wings Festival on October 30th, 2022 at the Zilker Botanical Garden, or attend online for a special hybrid live read-aloud of Collin Pine's new children's book “The Garden Next Door.”

Monarch Storytime with Local Children’s Book Author Tania DeGregorio at Zilker Botanical Garden

Come hear local children's book author Tania DeGregorio read her book Skydancer for a special story time at the Oak Grove Stage from 11:30 am to 11:55 am during the Roots & Wings Festival Celebration at Zilker Botanical Garden.

Pollinator Protection w/PEAS!

This event is reserved for students and not open to the general public. PEAS will help schools cultivate and revitalize their pollinator gardens by purchasing pollinator plants for schools who "opt-in" to accepting a delivery from us and can ensure they will get planted. In some schools, we will be able to lead the plantings with our students during their programming times. Through our school programming, we will be able to share about the importance of pollinator plants and basic care instructions with the teachers and students.

Let's Learn About Leaves! at the Hampton Branch Library

Come join us under the long limbs of the mighty live oak tree in front of the library building! We will begin with a mini-lesson on tree parts and a story. Then we will hike the nearby trails to observe tree parts. We will return to the shade below the mighty oak tree for a song about the parts of a leaf. Afterwards, the children will have an opportunity to make and label a leaf rubbing.

Kids' Climb at the Hampton Branch Library

Kids’ Climbs are an exciting opportunity for children to see the world from a whole new perspective! Kids will ascend a tree on belay and with the assistance of professional arborists using ropes and a harness. We also typically have an ascent available for adults and any others who wish to climb under their own power.
