The Roots & Wings Festival is an annual community-wide celebration of Texas Arbor Day and Monarch Appreciation Day, dedicated to celebrating nature in our neighborhoods. We embrace the fundamental concept that we are all connected to each other and to our local ecosystem. Growing these connections creates a stronger, more resilient and healthy community.

The Roots & Wings Festival is not one main event, but a 16-day long series of events led by the community in locations all over Austin. These free community events feature celebrations of our urban forest ecosystem— trees, butterflies, plants, fungi, soil health, pollinators, birds, bats, and more!

In 2025, the Roots & Wings Festival supported nearly 200 community-led events, hosted by 70 organizations and over 230 additional community partners and businesses that supported these amazing community leaders. Much gratitude to all event hosts, event host resources, and everyone who had some connection to the 8th annual Roots & Wings Festival!

We are thrilled to continue supporting qualifying Community Events. The application period to participate as a Roots & Wings Festival Event Host is May to August, with grant funding available for organizations that qualify!
